Growing up I was always involved in some sort of sport. I feel that participating in these sports has created a great foundation for my life. From soccer and ballet as a little one to finishing up my highschool career as a football (yes, I played with the guys!) and cheerleading (pop warner all the way to all-star of course!). I learned so many lessons from sports and it wasn't until now that I really got to reflect back on those. There is no doubt in my mind that I learned some of my work ethic from sports. I didn't get my full by just sheer luck. I spent many hours on that mat just practicing my tumbling skills.
HOWEVER, one of my biggest regrets in life has always been that I wish I pushed myself just a little bit harder though! There was a point in my tumbling career that I had a standing full and I was also was working on a double. Then for some reason I had a mental block and lost it! Reflecting back, I definitely don't know what went wrong but I do wish I knew what I know now back then.
State of mind is EVERYTHING.
I listen to the best of the best every single day. Tony Robbins, Les Brown, Zig Ziglar, Jairek Robbins, Gary Vee and a ton more speakers. It's SO important to fill your mind with great things to become really outstanding in life. I'm not saying I got it all figured out but I'm working on it! Tony Robbins talks a lot about getting yourself into the right state of mind and that it controls every outcome. He's totally right! Have you ever said something to someone and later regretted it? Or how about you really rocked at doing something and thought back about how freakin' awesome are you. I sure have. If you look back at those times, your outcome of those events could have been drastically different if you were in a different state of mind. I'm sure I'll get more into this as time goes on. But trust me, you'll want to be in the right state of mind everyday to get the most out of life.
How to get in a great state of mind you ask?
What's great about this is that there are literally SO many ways to get you there. Here are some of my favorites!
1. Meditation. There are so many great benefits you get from meditating on a regular basis. So many studies have shown that it helps reduce symptoms of stress, depression and anxiety. Not to mention sports are not just about your physical ability. Your mindset plays a HUGE role in your game, no matter what you do. Meditating can bring you on a whole new level.
2. Working out! This should be a given! Even if you don't want to work out do it anyway! Ideally you should work out in the morning, it really does set the tone for the day. Have those shoes and workout clothes right there when you first wake up. Get in them and GO! Working out sets off Endorphins! They literally trigger receptors to your BRAIN to REDUCE your reception of PAIN. How cool is that? There's a whole list of why working out is good for you but the fact that it gets you in a better mindset is one of my favorites
3. Music! Let me tell you, I love music! If I'm not listening to great speakers, I am jamming out to some music. It doesn't matter what kind of music, I literally listen to it all. And music can definitely get you going, so be careful what music you listen to during a certain time of day! I remember always being so annoyed at my husband when he would listen to crazy, up beat music at the END of the day. Not that I didn't want my kids to be in a great mood but it would get them going energetically too! So let's listen to some wind-down relaxing music at night, K?
4. Cold Showers in the morning! YEP, that's right, freezing cold showers right when I wake up! Why??? Not that I don't love a hot shower, I actually prefer it hotter, like burning skin off hot! But there are SO many benefits to cold showers, you just gotta try it at least for a week! Look up a guy called Wim Hof ((The Ice Man!)), he is seriously the master at this! So not only does a 5 minute FREEZING cold shower wake you up - just try being tired after that! - it has fantastic benefits. LIKE, lowering your stress level, releases more endorphins, better circulation and more. If you want more info go check out Wim Hof!
Now these are just 4 samples of ways you can get in better moods. There's a whole lot more like just laughing for a couple minutes, even if it's fake - do it anyways! Try it with a friend, it can get pretty entertaining! Anyways! I've gone on long enough... What are some ways that you get in a better mood?
On a side note: I meditate using MUSE. What is MUSE? It's this awesome headband that you wear when meditating. Muse gives you feedback about your meditation in real time by translating your brain signals into the sounds of wind. When your mind is calm and settled, you hear calm and settled winds. When your mind is active the winds will pick up and blow.
